Fit to Break Tradition
Fit to Break Tradition
A big portion of plumbing is the act of cutting, bending, and connecting pipe. The traditional methods of pipe joining generally include brazing, soldering, and welding. But traditions were meant to be broken.
Through the use of flexible, flame free, and simple copper tubing, a plumber has access to A.Y. McDonald’s press fit fittings. Although a relatively new product to our plumbing line, it has already been expanded to include all the connections necessary in order to properly join the pipes. Press fit fitting options range from couplings and adapters to elbows and unions.
In order to showcase how much time press fit fittings save vs. soldering, we asked a plumbing expert to try both methods at different times and then compare the two. With over 34 years of soldering experience on his side yet literally no experience with press fit fittings, it would appear that the latter was the underdog. However, 2:58 minutes later, Chris successfully pressed the pipes together through A.Y. McDonald’s press fit fittings and it wouldn’t be until another 5:15 minutes that he would complete the soldering. Watch the whole scene play out by viewing the video below.
Pipes, valves, and fittings make up the heart of plumbing. Therefore, in the quest to provide water supply, heating, and sanitation within a structure, there is no one way to connect pipes together. With the more options made available to plumbers, the more customizable each job at hand can be. (But we think Chris Roth would agree that the job might benefit more through the use of press fit fittings.)
