A Closer Look at Oetiker PEX Clamps

According to Google, a clamp is defined as a brace, band, or clasp for strengthening or holding things together. The use of a clamp has many applications, extending to vehicles, medical equipment, and especially plumbing. Oetiker clamps in particular are the ideal choice when securing PEX tubing together with the help of PEX insert fittings.

PEX tubing, also called crosslinked polyethylene, is a popular piping material for residential hot and cold water. Plumbers choose this piping material based on the fact that it’s corrosion resistant, lightweight, very bendable, easy to join, and competitively priced. In fact, PEX is the newest and fastest-growing material in common use for supply piping today. However, the effectiveness of the piping itself is also dependent upon the insert fitting and clamps used to connect the tubing together. That’s where Oetiker PEX clamps come in handy.

Oetiker PEX clamps are a specific brand of PEX clamps that are made in North America and form to ASTM F877/F8098. By properly securing the insert fitting onto the PEX tube, Oetiker clamps ensure an easy and tight hold. They are effective whether the insert fitting comprises of a coupling, elbow, tee, cap, nipple, union, or reducer. Below are additional features and benefits of Oetiker PEX clamps:

  • Smooth edged band steel that prevents damage to the tube
  • Narrow bad, concentrated seal compression
  • Fast, simple, secure installation
  • Tamper detectable design
  • Should be used with ASTM F876 tubing and ASTM F1807 (brass) or F2159 (plastic) fittings
  • Requires only one installation for all clamp sizes
  • Ideal for tight spaces
  • Oetiker PEX clamps and tools are distinguished with an Oetiker logo on the tool jaw link and contain an “OET” on the clamp band

In addition to the standard clamp, Oetiker also offers a clamp with PEXGrip® technology applied. The patented PEXGrip® allows the user to experience an even easier installation and better grip. The clamp is also preset to prevent sliding, thus saving time and shortening the tool stroke during the installation. View the video below for a better understanding of the PEXGrip®, along with Oetiker crimping tools and how to use them.
