A standard service saddle with a conventional bolt simply must be assembled to the water main, thread the bolt through, and then torque it to the correct specification. While it sounds easy, without using a torque wrench, there is no way of knowing whether it’s been tightened to the correct torque. As a result, saddles can be overtightened, damaging the bolt, causing saddle failure and, in the worst-case scenario, cracking the pipe beneath it. Starting fall 2022, a number of A.Y. McDonald service saddles will automatically come with a new innovative bolt that protects the saddle from being over torqued. Better known as the TITAN, this bolt includes an integrated plastic break away bolt head designed to break off at the correct torque, thus eliminating over torquing when installing a service saddle. The TITAN will be incorporated on all A.Y. McDonald 2”- 8”, single-bolt, single-hinged, Brass Service Saddles, 3/4” or 1” taps that includes models 3891, 3892, 3895, 3896. The TITAN bolt works with impact drivers, so no torque wrench is required, leading to a more efficient process than ever before! Use a standard wrench, ratchet wrench, impact wrench, etc. The bolt itself includes a durable bronze construction and an injection molded torque limiter. The concept of the patent pending TITAN bolt stemmed directly from the customer – our boss – so every aspect of it was made with you in mind.
