How A.Y. McDonald Brings Interchangeability to Our Compression Ends

In an ideal world, you’d be able to satisfy all your customers’ needs with as little inventory on your shelves as possible. For distributors, municipalities, and utilities, this is often a pipe dream since providing water to communities can be a very customizable job. However, A.Y. McDonald provides a solution and it contains just three words: mechanical compression joints.

A.Y. McDonald allows you to stock one valve or fitting and various nut assemblies to make up whatever connection style your customer requires. With mechanical compression joints available for Copper Tube and Copper Tube Sized (CTS) PE, your options includes the T-Series, MacPac, McQuik, and McGrip. See how each joint style contributes to the industry by viewing the video below and reading an in-depth description of each:

T-Series
The "T" Series assembly allows the installer more flexibility if they encounter oversized or undersized copper or PE. It also utilizes a stainless-steel gripping ring to ensure high pull-out resistance. The self-lubricated EPDM rubber gasket creates a watertight seal at pressures well over 200 PSIG.

MacPac
The MacPac series assembly allows the installer more flexibility if they encounter oversized or undersized copper tube or CTS PE. It also has a clamping system that creates pull-out resistance. The EPDM rubber gasket creates a watertight seal at pressures well over 200 PSIG. It also utilizes a plastic friction ring to keep the gasket from binding on the nut while tightening.

McQuick (“Q”)
The McQuik series assembly has a “tighten to stop” feature that allows the installer and inspector to see at a glance if the joint is tightened sufficiently. It also utilizes a stainless-steel gripping ring to ensure high pull-out resistance. The embedded copper spring in the EPDM gasket promotes electrical continuity. The self-lubricated EPDM rubber gasket creates a watertight seal at pressures well over 200 PSIG.

McGrip
The McGrip assembly allows the service line material to be stabbed through the nut, grip ring/friction ring, and gasket assembly. As a one-step system, the G nut is tightened to the shoulder/stop on the body. In doing so, the EPDM gasket and bronze gripper compress. A watertight seal at pressures well over 200 PSIG is created, along with a high pull-out resistance.

A.Y. McDonald makes thousands of different valves and fittings that incorporate machined ends, allowing the user to attach any one of these four (T-Series, MacPac, McQuik, McGrip) compression systems size for size. The lone exception to this rule is on 1 1⁄2” and 2” “Q” series corporation stops. These corporation stops have compression nuts specifically designed for their use and are not interchangeable with any other compression systems we have.

A.Y. McDonald offers the most flexible and interchangeable compression systems in the industry today. When you choose us, gone are the days of having to stock three different valves and/or fittings because the types of compression ends used are different from customer to customer!
